I just got pictures back from the photographer... now I'm trying to decide which ones to print up. I have two 8x10 frames... and I've more or less decided on 3 different prints. I may not be able to narrow it down to 2, so I think I'll just print up all three. Anyhoo, there are just some photos of John and I. I have more that I'll get together in a digital photo album soon enough!
Some of you may be curious how the wedding went. If you are one of the few people who actually read my blog from time to time, I apologize. I'm afraid, however, that there are not many of you out there. Needless to say, the wedding was fabulous. Yes, I did "freak out" days before the wedding... and a few hours prior especially, when I was running late, John was running late, Holden (John's nephew, one of the ring bearers) still didn't have a suit, and so on. Of course, these will be stories we recall with a laugh later, but at the time they were a bit un-nerving. I will say that I probably could have made my self a lot more stressed out and nervous about the occasion than I was -- but I assumed the role of an easy-to-please bride (which I admit is not easy to come by) and tried not to stress about things too much.
All in all, it went quickly... and I was definitely surprised by the well wishes, gifts, and sheer generosity given to us. It was definitely well worth it all to spend some time with folks I haven't seen in awhile, especially my family. I really couldn't ask for anything more! Our honeymoon was a bit short, but it's all we could afford. I'm thankful that we were even able to get as many days away that we could, despite some setbacks (like, the fact that the car was acting up while we were in St. Pete). Sure, who wouldn't want a longer vacation (free of car repairs)? Hopefully we'll have steady and reliable income in a year in order to afford a proper honeymoon! It's something to save for and enjoy on our first year anniversary.... if we make it that long (JUST KIDDING!!!).
What's next on the horizon? Well, we're looking to move into a house (for rent) for a number of reasons... mostly because our apartment complex has some problems that are causing problems, and it would be a better environment to start our new life together in a new place. Our lease is up at the end of June.
I'm just getting over a nasty cold. I'm actually starting to feel like myself again. Yesterday I must have sneezed practically twenty times... and that's no exaggeration. On Monday I left work early, got home and watched TV in my bed for a few hours. I finally fell asleep around 8pm and slept on and off until 8am the following morning... typically I have more energy than that, but I was just exhausted.
So, it's good to be back and getting into the swing of life, getting over sicknesses and ready to tackle new things... like, trying to finish up all of this freelance work by May 17th, which is when our company will finally be closed for good. And also... jumping through all of the hoops to get my name legally changed to Rakel Fairfull!
Well, tonight I put together my bridesmaids bouquets... and they are quite lovely! I still have to finish them off with floral tape & ribbon, but I thought I'd post them up for everyone to see (including you sis!). I think they turned out beautifully! My bouquet will have a lot of color in it mixed with white -- lavender, dusty rose, apricot, light pink, mauve, cream & ivory, etc.
It's amazing to me how easily it is to slip away from my disciplines. I wanted to get on a day schedule, so I did, and then when John didn't have anything to do at the office and I moved my computer back at home, my schedule has done a complete 180. Today I got up after 4pm and probably won't go to bed until 7 or 8 am. It's so easy to just slowly stay up later and later... I should probably just say up today and go to bed at a decent hour tomorrow.
HOWEVER, I do have some good news. In about 2 weeks and 4 days, I've lost 10 pounds. It evens out to somewhere between 3.5 and 4 pounds a week, which is pretty good progress if I do say so myself. I'm hoping I can shed another 20 pounds before it slows down, which is approximately another 6 weeks.
I really need to start planning this wedding, there's a lot to do, but the most important thing right now is just locking in the date and the location for the reception. Then I can get started on getting my invitations ready and start mailing them out... but even after that there are a ton of small details I need to work on, like decorations, flowers & wedding favors... and some larger ones too like... a photographer & videographer, and picking out the formal wear for the wedding party.
So much to do. So much to think about... and the wedding is supposed to take place late March. I was thinking March 25th, but my dad pointed out that it's a Tuesday. So I'm thinking of moving it to Saturday, but it just depends on how much the reception is going to set me back... I don't have a lot of funds to work with & would like to spend most of the money on getting good photos to remember this grand event. I should get work on it after I make this post.
OH, I also stumbled upon this really awesome site. You can create 5 or less color palettes and then save them in different formats to use in your web & graphic design works. It's really addictive and a lot of fun. Here are some of my favorite palettes that I've made so far:
I think everyone will be relieved to know that my ring has finally arrived. After months of waiting, it is nice to casually glance at my left hand and see a sparkling opal looking back at me! It brings a smile every time.
My engagement story is not nearly as exciting as the story of how we met -- the long distance romance, the eight hour phone conversations, the first meeting, the cross-country move. It wasn't over exaggerated, but sweet, like a kiss on the cheek. The transition feels normal, but exciting. We have been engaged for some time -- he asked me before the first of the year, but we kept it under wraps (see previous post for details). Now that I have my ring it seems a little more official, but that's kind of silly when you think about it. I mean, what really has changed? Our feelings haven't -- I guess it's just more of a public change than anything. Still, it's not like one gets married just so they can wear jewelry, at least, I hope not!
I told my sister and older brother, and they seemed a little surprised. I knew this was coming when I moved down here two years ago, but maybe the reality didn't sink in uniformly. Which is fine. I chatted with Angela about weddings for quite some time and I awkwardly asked her to be one of my bridesmaids, which she accepted. It even looks as though my brother is considering making the trip. I don't think they have ever gone outside of Illinois and Wisconsin so that would be quite some feat!
I'm still waiting to hear from my brother on when spring break is for the girls, but my tentative date looks like it'll be around the 25th of March 2008. I'm not really sure what steps I need to take into planning this thing, so if anyone has some resources on the web I could lok into, I would be much obliged! I'm trying to work on a low budget, so keep that in mind. However, my mom and step-dad are going to give us some money for our honeymoon. Pretty much anything in the USA is fair game and we don't have the foggiest idea where to even start, so if you have any ideas I'd love to hear about them!
